M
any of you will have noticed that we
have released a tablet-friendly edi-
tion of Toyota Trails. And some of
you may not have noticed--that's OK too.
The March issue of Toyota Trails is now also
available at www.toyotatrails.com in the tablet
format--and as a downloadable PDF. So there
are now three editions of this magazine, all of
which can be more or less held in your hand. It's
very exciting and many thanks to Karie Farr for her
excellent work on this project.
The thing that I love about the tablet edition is that
it's always with me. My printed copy of Toyota
Trails
may be sitting on the coffee table at home
but I can still read the digital edition anywhere I
go. I also love the way the photos really pop on
the screen--something that is unfortunately dif-
ficult to achieve when printing ink on economical
grades of paper. I still love the print edition and
read it cover to cover but this tablet version has
me very intrigued as to the possibilities.
One of the primary values of the tablet edition is
that you can link directly from advertisers to their
websites in order to take full advantage of their
products and services. Just click on their adver-
tisement and you will link automatically to their
website.
This should be very useful for TLCA members but is
also of value to our advertisers. We are constantly
looking at ways to make support of TLCA a win-
win for everyone involved and the links in these
ads are a major step forward.
Why does advertising revenue matter to TLCA
members? We're a non-profit, right? Why do we
need advertising dollars?
The simple answer is that we have expenses, one
of which is the printed copy of Toyota Trails. There
are other expenses of course but Toyota Trails is
pretty well the major line item on the debit side
of the TLCA budget. We need to be able to sup-
port that budget and the magazine not only with
member-
ship dollars
but also with
advertising income.
So for those of us who still like to hold the printed
copy of Toyota Trails in our hands, it is important
to recognize that we also need to support the
digital initiative. The easiest and most direct way
to do this is to use the links in the tablet version to
go directly from toyotatrails.com to the advertiser
websites. This is how advertisers balance outgoing
advertising expenses with incoming revenue. They
examine where their online business originated.
When it originates at TLCA, we look good, adver-
tisers are happy and revenue flows into the club.
It's that simple.
So even if you don't necessarily want to read
Toyota Trails online, you can still be helpful to the
organization by originating your online purchases
from our advertisers at the Toyota Trails website.
I'm sometimes asked, "How can I get involved
and assist the TLCA?" This is an easy and effective
way to do it.
So when you think parts and services for your
Toyota off-road vehicle, first consider supporting
TLCA by directly supporting our advertisers. That is
truly a win-win!
Also be sure to check out what TLCA Social
Media Coordinator Stan Wright has been doing
on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Lots of excit-
ing things happening with TLCA these days and
Stan is a big part of that effort.
Be safe and goodbye.
