our way through narrow canyons. Rally style fast driving on dirt tracks in the woods, with lots of difficult navigation off track, all just to get us to the one difficult point of the day. We drive down a big canyon with 45 degree walls. Two thirds down, an enormous tree blocks the way so we have to go around using the left flank. Having only a front winch, it's a little tricky for us. I drive as far as I dare on the sides- lope and we winch the BJ further to the left. When we're up far enough, we use the snatchblock and make a triangle from the winch to a big tree on the left and back to the rollcage on the rear, which allows me to let the front of the Cruiser slide back to the right in the canyon. yon is a three meter step with a big rock on the left and a hole at the bottom on the right side. I can't go over the rock without damag- ing the underside of the Cruiser so I have to go right and turn left into the hole. The Cruiser stands on the left front wheel and almost tips over but falls back on four wheels. This must be in my own personal top five of stupid things ever done in my BJ.... Spectacular stuff--if you land on all fours like a cat. get through and the G Wagon drives straight through using his top winch. The hotel owner in his Rubicon knew what was coming and drove around the canyon. We continue past a beautifull mountain lake and then get lost. Not really lost because we know where we are but we just can't find the next Azimut point. All four teams are running in circles and we decide to grab a bite to eat. As we get going again, the sun sets and we still have a huge mountain ridge to cross. When we finally get to the top, it's pitch black. Always great driving in the dark, with LED bars lighting up the woods--makes it even more special. ing thick fog. The start is under the monaster- ies and we navigate through a dense forest with hardly enough space between the trees |
