TOYOTA T R A I L S
Trail Leader
Hello everyone.
I hope this issue reaches you all in good health
and spirits, and that you are preparing for another
year of great TLCA events.
I hope everyone took advantage of our closeout
sale at the TLCA store. After holding out as long
as we could, I finally gave in and agreed that it
did not make financial sense to continue trying to
use our order fulfillment company. Unfortunately,
our sales were too low and the vendor had
increased our fees. Our new Member Services
Coordinator worked with Casey and I to set up
and run our campaign to reduce our inventory. As
a result of your support, we were able to generate
$15,000 in sales, which is a great start to our
financial year.
Going forward, Karie Farr will have two years
worth of Toyota Trails back issues for sale, and
she will fulfill that herself. Our MSVP, Bill Wright,
will handle merchandise on a limited run basis,
such as a batch of grill badges, shirts or whatever
else we decide on. Almost like a group buy,
except that we will still order it up and sell it,
rather than making people pay up front. We hope
to continue to profit from those sales, we just won't
have the high overhead.
I was reading the history articles that Tony Twiddy
wrote years ago, which had a section on the
origination of Toyota Trails. One of the goals that
Gary Bjork had was for the advertising revenue
to offset the costs associated with publishing and
printing Trails. We are not quite there right now
and the Board has been searching for ways to
keep printing the magazine.
Stan Wright, our Social Media guru, presented
the idea of creating a downloadable version
of Trails, based on his experiences with digital
publications. Karie, Stan and Todd worked on
this for our January/February 2015 issue. We've
decided that we will make this free to the public
for download. The goal is twofold: increase distri-
bution, which
can help us add
advertisers and possibly increasing advertising
rates; we also hope to increase membership as
readers see what TLCA has to offer.
On a final note, there are a number of events
coming up in the next few months. I will be driving
out to the twelfth annual Lone Star Cruiser Round
Up with several other Californians. There is the
relatively new event, Mardi Krawl, in its third year,
and the oldest event, Mud `N' Yer Eye, in its thirty-
ninth year. Rounding things out is the Lone Star
Jamboree, Cruise Moab and GSMTR. I hope you
all get a chance to attend one of these events.
Take care.
