TOYOTA T R A I L S
It was the smell of burning industrial
grease that set off alarm bells in my
head. No noise, no loose steering,
nothing unusual apart from that bitter
smell that suddenly filled the cabin of my
80 series Land Cruiser. Almost reflexively,
I pulled to the side of the rocky track,
grabbed the fire extinguisher from below
my seat and jumped out in search of
the problem.
It was obvious. Intense heat radiated
from the front right side of the vehicle
and in the shadow the wheel arch was
casting over the tire, I recognized the
axle flange was glowing red.

The side of a dusty track will have to
suffice as a temporary workshop.
