Typically when a mailing list member references a vendor, they make it obvious that they are not affiliated with the vendor in some fashion; or they'll explain why they're recommending that vendor. "I recommend the Foo Company. I purchased an exhaust from them recently and had a good experience! I have no affiliation".  What we all have seen here is a bit of activity from that company carrying out its business on the list.
