[LCML] Should we do engine replacement for 1986 FJ60?

Yes, definitely worth it if you folks aer still happy with this truck.

 

As has been mentioned, a re-build on the 2F can be quite expensive.  A good used engine might be available, but you'll have to browse on Craigslist, IH8Mud, etc. to find one.  I'd suggest looking for a running, rust-bucket FJ60 to use as a donor.  With a running vehicle you can compression test the potential donor engine to see if it is worth the trouble.

My '86 FJ60 is blowing oil past the rings. The body is in good shape and the interior is OK, since most has been recovered to hold the disintegrating stuff together (dashboard, etc.). George uses it as a daily commuter. We're at 196,000 miles. Opinion time -- is it worth an engine rebuild/replacement?
